“CELLebrate2015” Offers Rare, Inside Peek at Scripps Florida
The Scripps Research Institute invites the public to join dozens of biomedical scientists on Saturday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Gardens Mall for the sixth annual CELLebrate Scripps Florida Science Day.
Located throughout The Gardens Mall’s lower level, CELLebrate2015 is a free community science festival featuring a wealth of science demonstrations, and fun, interactive exhibits designed to spark the curiosity of children and adults alike.
CELLebrate2015 will highlight the exciting biomedical research being done by Scripps Florida scientists in the areas of chemistry and technology, as well as spotlighting modern breakthroughs in the following topics: Cancer Biology, Metabolism & Aging, Neuroscience, Infectious Diseases, and Molecular Therapeutics.
Since its founding in 2004, Scripps Florida has established deep roots in South Florida, while fulfilling its mission as a nonprofit organization to advance human health and train the next generation of scientists.
CELLebrate2015 offers a chance to meet and interact with the scientists behind the research, and learn about some of the amazing scientific breakthroughs taking place right here in Palm Beach County.
Here are a few exciting highlights:
• From exploding hydrogen bubbles to the extreme cold effects of liquid nitrogen, kids will enjoy a variety of chemistry demonstrations and intellectual, hands-on activities.
• Discover why the study of sea slugs, fruit flies, roundworms, and zebrafish are vital to understanding basic human biology.
• New this year: 3-D printing and how it’s playing a key role in the advancement of biomedical research.
• Gesundheit! Viruses and bacteria are an everyday part of our world. Some are friendly, and some are not so friendly. See how Scripps scientists are discovering new breakthroughs to keep us healthy and safe.
